Let U Know

"Let U Know" by How to Dress Well // What Is This Heart (Bonus Cut) (Available Now via Domino/Weird World)

It’s been a little over a month since the release of the third album by How to Dress Well. In that time, the album saw the release of several versions of the format release, one of which was the expanded triple pack LP, which featured two bonus cuts that didn’t make the final cut of the album. “Let U Know” is one of those songs, and it’s now streaming from the artist’s Soundcloud page with a little information on the track’s origins:

“In singing ‘Let U Know,’ I discovered the title of my album and a lot of its meaning—I needed this song to be heard by people, even though I couldn’t find a place for it on the album proper. When I made this song, singing over a song originally by one of my best friends, a lot of what I’d developed on “WITH?” just came clear to me—these questions, these relationships with the past and the future, all this love…”

Go ahead and stream the aching, minimalist beauty now. It may not have made the final cut of the album, but that doesn’t mean the quality is suffering in the least. Highest recommendation.

"Crime" by Real Estate // Atlas (Out 3.4.14 via Domino)

Real Estate's new album drops very soon and as a reminder, the band has dropped it's second single from Atlas. “Crime” is another slice of gorgeous, laid-back, autumnal jangle pop. This time around, the band has offered up a special way of experiencing the track, by releasing it as a “how-to-play” instructional video, complete with guitar tab tutorial. Pretty swell of them! At any rate, you need not have a desire to play the song to love the song. Highly recommended.

"Talking Backwards" by Real Estate // Atlas (Out March 4th, 2014 via Domino Records)

The new album announcements just keep on coming, and this time it’s from another PMW favorite, Real Estate. The band’s third album is due out March 4th from Domino, and the first single (and accompanying video) is streaming now. “Talking Backwards” finds the band crafting a warm, almost Americana-esque, bit of sunny guitar pop. Again, the band swims in the most sweetly melodic of waters, instantly crafting some of the best, infectious, yet mature hooks in indie rock. Definitely press play on the video (directed by Charles Poekel) and spend some time with a wonderful track from one of my most anticipated albums of the year.

Jon Hopkins - Breathe This Air feat. Purity Ring

"Breathe This Air (feat. Purity Ring)" by Jon Hopkins // Breathe This Air 12” (Out 8.27.13 via Domino)

Jon Hopkins has gone and recruited Megan James of Purity Ring to add vocals to a new version of his stunning “Breathe This Air” from his new album "Immunity". The vocals add a lovely new layer to the original that already carried a somber air, but now feels more fully realized with the gorgeous vocal melody incorporated within the new version. The new version will be available as a 12” backed with Hopkins’ remix of Purity Ring’s “Amenamy” (which can be heard HERE). If you’re in Los Angeles at the end of the month, head over to the Henry Fond Theater on the 27th and 28th for the Purity Ring / Jon Hopkins show where each night they will be giving away 175 copies of the 12”.
