"Warm Weather Ghosts" // A Perfect Midnight World Mixtape (2011)
A few years back I made a mixtape for the dog days of summer and it turned out pretty great. Sadly, over the past few years, It ended up accidentally removed - therefore there is no record of it here on the site. As i prep the spiritual brother of Warm Weather Ghosts, I thought it would be fun to re-post it as it is one of my favorite mixtapes of all time. It’a  collection of what was at that time, new tracks and assorted favorites from yesteryear. Now, they all exist together, a collection of indie favorites, staged to soundtrack your late summer nights. Hope that you enjoy! The 2014 sequel will drop next week. Without further ado, here’s the playlist.

TRUE DETECTIVE // A Mixtape Inspired By the Series
As the finale of HBO’s brilliant series, True Detective fast approaches, I thought it would be fun to curate a playlist that celebrates the sound of the show. The music contained falls into the darker realms of Americana, psych rock, dream pop, and country - all darkly atmospheric and haunting. The mixtape includes sounds heard on the show, as well as songs that fit the sonic template used throughout the series. So, as we wait to find the final fates of Rust, Marty, and the Yellow King, please enjoy this compilation who’s creation was inspired by the magnificent world of True Detective.

Dead Mellotron 'Making Up'

"Making Up" by Dead Mellotron // Glitter (2012)

Dead Mellotron’s excellent new album, “Glitter” (Out now on Sonic Cathedral) is a shoegaze album with character. Each track has something special that sets it apart from the last, but the overall affect remains consistent and progressive. Without getting into a full album review, I’d like to draw attention to one particular standout, in the dark, gorgeous shoegazer, “Making Up”. This track has a Sonic Youth vibe in it’s darker, mid-tempo beat, and forlorn guitars. Think of Dead Meadow's “Old Growth” album, or last year's excellent “Prom” from Grooms, and you’ll get why I’m so in love with this particular track. It’s eerie, melodic drone and haunting vocals sound custom made for a late night drive through Autumn months. It’s a killer track from a stellar album. Highest recommendation.
